Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Writes To 7 States As Row With Centre Escalates| Photo: PTI Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Writes To 7 States As Row With Centre Escalates| Photo: PTI As the delimitation row continues, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has reached out to his counterparts in the south as well as in states such as West Bengal, Odisha and Punjab.
In his letter, the DMK leader has called for the creation of a Joint Action Committee to plan the delimitation exercise.
As per reports, Stalin reached out to the states of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka, West Bengal, Odisha and Punjab for their formal consent and for the states to nominate a "senior representative" for the JAC.

Stalin also called for an inaugural meeting on March 22, 2025 in Chennai to discuss a collective path for the delimitation.
"This moment demands leadership and collaboration, rising above political differences and standing up for our collective good,” he wrote.

The DMK leader shared two potential approaches to the delimitation exercise. These are -
Redistributing the existing 543 seats among the states
Increasing the total number of seats to over 800.
"In both scenarios, all the states that have successfully implemented population control measures stand to lose significantly if the exercise is based on post-2026 population. We should not be thus penalized for effectively controlling population growth and upholding national development goals," Stalin said.

— M.K.Stalin (@mkstalin) March 7, 2025 What Is The Delimitation Row?Delimitation is a constitutional process in India which focuses on redrawing parliamentary and assembly constituencies of a state to ensure equal population representation. This process also determines the number of seats each state gets in Parliament.
The process is done under Articles 82 and 170 of the Indian Constitution.
In Tamil Nadu, Stalin has expressed concern regarding this process and stated that the Union government will take this process and use it to limit the state's seat in Parliament.
The delimitation row comes alongside a row between the DMK government and the Central government over the implementation of the National Education Policy for the three-language policycarnivalcity7, which will allow Hindi to be taught in Tamil Nadu.
